Instructions For Diet Following Surgery
INSTRUCTIONS FOR DIET FOLLOWING IMPLANT SURGERY
It is most important that you maintain a nutritious diet during the weeks of healing. The patient who maintains a good diet of soft foods generally feels better, has less discomfort, and heals faster. Avoid acidic food and beverages such as carbonated drinks, orange juice, tomato juice, tomato sauce, citrus fruits, ect. for the first two weeks following implant surgery.
BREAKFAST
Milk, Ovaltine, Boost, Ensure, tea, or coffee. Stewed fruits, prunes or similar fruits should be mashed or sieved. Cooked cereals such as oatmeal or cream of wheat. Eggs: soft boiled, soft scrambled, poached, or soft fried. Liquid supplements as suggested above.
LUNCH AND DINNER
Home cooked soups such as chicken noodle, broccoli cheese, vegetable, beef or chicken broths. Recommended meats such as ground beef, baked or broiled fish, broiled or stewed chicken. Pastas such as macaroni and cheese, spaghetti with meat sauce, fettuccine alfedo, etc. Mashed potatoes or baked potatoes with NO bacon bits. Soft and well cooked vegetables such as green beans, peas, carrots, lima beans, string beans. Cottage cheese, cream cheese, canned fruit, baked apples, puddings, Jell-O, custards, milkshakes, ice cream, and pound cake.
REMEMBER: You may eat any soft foods that do not irritate. You may chew SOFT foods on the opposite side of surgery. A good rule of thumb is that any foods you choose should be “fork tender” and able to be easily cut with your fork or spoon. If you experience difficulty in eating properly, use the dietary supplements (boost, ensure, etc.) mixed with vanilla ice cream to substitute food for a nutritious shake. It is very important to get enough proteins vitamins and minerals to heal properly. Do not hesitate to call the office with any questions.
